If you’ve been considering a guided travel tour but worry that it could be too structured for you, the Roam by Tauck collection might be the perfect fit. The portfolio of trips from the century-old upscale guided travel company gives travelers plenty of time to explore destinations in their own way.
The collection launched with five trips in 2026 and recently expanded to 12 itineraries around the world. Each Roam by Tauck journey includes “Signature Moments” experienced as a group: think a helicopter flight over Queenstown or a pintxos crawl in San Sebastián. But half of the time is free for guests to shape as they wish, whether by taking advantage of curated choices like hiking, kayaking, and cultural experiences or setting out totally on their own. Guests are supported throughout the trip by a dedicated Roam Director, who offers insight, recommendations, and assistance as desired.
Designed for travelers in their 40s and 50s, the small-group trips average just 16 guests. Bookings are open for Roam by Tauck’s 2027 portfolio of journeys, which includes new experiences in Japan, New Zealand, South Africa and Mozambique, Switzerland, and Northern California. There are also two new tours in Italy, a seven-day land journey through Florence and the Tuscan Hills and a 12-day small-ship cruise around Rome, Sicily, and Malta.

“These journeys are designed for travelers balancing full lives who want to recharge and reconnect—combining immersive experiences, exceptional accommodations, and the freedom to explore at their own pace, all supported by Tauck’s expertise,” says Tauck CEO Jennifer Tombaugh.
All Roam by Tauck journeys include accommodations, airport transfers upon arrival and departure, luggage handling, all gratuities, and all activity choices offered on the itinerary. Independent time is built into each itinerary, when guests can explore as they choose (and at their own expense). Tours can be booked online, by calling 877-519-2204, or through your preferred travel advisor.
TourScoop takeaway: Roam by Tauck journeys could just be Goldilocks tours for many travelers, hitting the sweet spot between the ease of guided travel and the freedom to explore in your own way. Guests get all the benefits of a guided tour—like special access and insight—but won’t feel overscheduled or restricted.
